The Film 'Together' Is Now Streaming, and It Could Strengthen or Shatter Your Relationship.

We present a dare for long-term couples who appreciate the horror genre: Settle in with your loved one and view Together. The 2025 indie hit recently had its online premiere via Hulu. On the surface, it could look like typical biological terror, but inside Together lies a intense examination about the ways we decide to love our partners.

An Introductory Film Exploring The Nuances of Love

Together represents the first full-length movie for director Michael Shanks. It showcases Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, partners that have been together for a decade. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, the actors bring a special spark to their portrayals, expertly portraying both the strengths and weaknesses of a long-term relationship.

The narrative begins when Tim and Millie move from the urban environment to the countryside for professional reasons. A familiar story element, of course, but that’s mostly where the cliches cease. Together evolves into as much a examination of mental states of the partnership as it is a film about physical terror.

A Supernatural Catalyst

While trekking near their rural residence, a tempest descends, and Millie and Tim tumble into an subterranean cavern. After a night spent there and managing to escape, a supernatural entity takes hold of the pair. This force compels a paranormal intimacy between them that goes well past simple connection.

The entire film is a methodically building of scares, weaving in elements of hallucinatory nightmares, disturbing (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and surprisingly comedic dialogue (sometimes amidst something horrific). Shanks weaves these elements together expertly and wraps them up in a consistently growing aura of dread.

Layered Performances

A significant portion of Together is exclusively Brie and Franco, and they skillfully illustrate countless layers to the characters’ relationship. Millie's sense of self and emotional bond is suffering due to a emotional and physical gap. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his unwillingness to chase only his struggling artistic pursuits gradually emerges.

Tim, on the other hand senses confinement and separated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve left the city and far away from his support system. He dreads the concept of utterly sacrificing his personal autonomy in Millie. This fear is intensified by the fact he lacks a driver's license and is dependent on Millie for transportation.

The film's most intelligent aspect in Together never makes Tim or Millie the clear bad guy.

Both characters face the kind of problems that are inherent in long-term unions a decade in. Deep down, they continue to care for each other. They share moments of joy, provide solace, and share intimately at times. But under the surface, there’s an persistent current of uncertainty about their relationship.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the paranormal elements in Together represent these anxieties of excessive reliance and totally devoting oneself to another person, the symbolism does not come across as hamfisted or pretentious. Instead, these more disturbing, unsettling scenes present a ideal counterpart to the interpersonal storytelling. Both the supernatural and the personal work together symbiotically.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s ending, which won’t be spoiled here, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about codependent relationships. It has been said that single viewers have interpreted the film as a strong argument for avoiding commitment. Meanwhile, a few pairs having disagreements found that the film actually helped them make up.

Regardless of your relationship status, your own interpretation could function as a revealing measure of how you view relationships. Will the conclusion plant anxiety and horror, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you identify in one of the characters and yell at the screen, or simply look at your significant other and state, “We could get through that together”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an experiment you can embark on at this very moment.

Together is available to watch on Hulu's platform as of this moment.
