Government Official States Ministry of Defence Investigating Security Risk from Vehicles from China, as Personnel Advised to Avoid Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

An defence minister has revealed that the MoD is actively investigating the potential threats associated with Chinese cars, and staff have been instructed to refrain from talking about classified information in all vehicles.

Safety Advice for Defence Personnel

During a recent appearance on a radio station, a defence minister commented on claims that Ministry of Defence officials have been told not to talk about classified information while travelling in China-made vehicles.

He stated that the ministry is “examining” cars from China within its fleets, however stressed that security is a issue in all modern vehicles.

Our department has a collection of tens of thousands of vehicles in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles account for a tiny fraction.
But regardless of if you’re traveling in a Chinese car or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our staff is not to plug Ministry of Defence technology into their car, not to have conversations at a classified classification in any kind of vehicle, because of the increasing threats of surveillance that exist in every single vehicle, to restrict those secret conversations in protected areas. This is a wise and reasonable thing for anyone concerned about security.

After it was suggested that it would be prudent for the MoD to cease using every Chinese vehicles, Pollard replied: ‘That’s exactly what we are looking into at the present time.”

Broader Defence Background

This revelation follows reports from Scandinavian countries have alerted the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made buses, which could enable the Chinese government to disable buses and cause disruption to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russian intelligence vessel has been shining laser beams at Royal Air Force aircrew, labeled a “highly dangerous” action by government representatives.

This wider defence environment highlights the importance of robust measures and vigilance in all areas of government activities, including transport usage to communication practices.
